Illinois has had better sports days.

DECEMBER 4, 2010

NIU was beaten in the MAC Championship game at Ford’s Field by Miami of Ohio 26 to 21 Friday night.

Perhaps the heavily favored NIU Huskies should have saved some of the points they ran-up on Eastern Michigan last week-end. They could have used six of those points, even five to start with. A huge defensive gaff cost NIU this game. With NIU leading 21 to 20 with 1:51 remaining in the game, Miami had the ball on their own 38 yard line. It was 4th and twenty, typically a situation where the defense holds the opponent from a first down. It was not to be Friday night. Miami completed a pass for 31 yards, gaining a first down. It took Miami two more plays to score the go ahead touchdown, a 33 yard scoring pass.

NIU still had a chance. They got to the Miami 31 yard line with ten seconds to go but threw an incomplete pass and ended the game on a quarterback sack. A great year ended miserably, at least the regular season ended. NIU could still go to a bowl game.

The University of Illinois also managed to get beat Friday night 25 to 23 by Fresno State in California. Not a good night for the State of Illinois football. Both games were nationally shown on ESPN 2.

I have been hearing President Obama and all of the King’s men talk about how they have turned around the worst United States economy in decades. They are constantly blaming George Bush for the bad aspects of the economy; in the next breath, they claim they have added hundreds of thousands of jobs which is fueling the alleged recovery. No legitimate expert that does not work for the President agrees a recovery is underway. You can always find someone with a degree to say what you want

Now, some of the truth is hard to lie about. The November unemployment rate jumped to a seven month high, to 9.8 %. This is at a time when unemployment typically goes down or stays steady because of seasonal hiring. All of you enjoying this great economic recovery, have a happy holiday season.

When the spin masters blame this on George Bush on the talking heads news programs this week-end, I hope someone reminds them that when this downturn began, the Democrats were in control of both houses of Congress, with a super majority in the Senate. Why is it all Bush’s fault? Congress makes the laws; the President merely suggests some laws.

Charlie Rangel gets a slap on wrist and keeps his job. Look what happens to a somewhat normal citizen.

The date is set for Wesley Snipes, and he's finally out of options. The 'Blade' hero was ordered to start his 3-year jail sentence for tax evasion on Dec. 9 at noon, AP reports. Snipes is scheduled to serve his time at a federal prison in Pennsylvania. Snipes, who has been free on bail since the 2008 conviction, has attempted to have his case overturned to no avail.

It is nice to hear from friends and relatives around the holidays, sometimes. Charles Manson was caught with a cell phone hidden under his mattress in his prison cell in California. He had made numerous phone calls to people in several different states. The cell phone was confiscated. It is not illegal to have a cell phone in prison in California but you need permission. Manson did not have permission. Prison authorities said it was difficult to keep the contraband out of prisons. I do not see why. Don’t the prison officials still have the guns in California? An accidental shooting now and then will make the prisoners think twice about breaking the rules.

Charlie Rangel got a "Get Out Of Jail Free Card"; Why?

DECEMBER 3, 2010

Another day and another dollar, I hope, anyway. The week-end is here already. Today is… National Roof-Over-Your-Head Day. I hope you and yours have one.

Ron Santo died late Thursday evening in a hospital in Arizona. God Bless the Santo family. I will say a Hail Mary for them today. I am not a Cubs fan but Ron Santo was hard to not like. I will miss him.

Watch this video: pretty cool.

What’s going on in the world? Where’s Charlie? Thought you were innocent Mr. Rangel. That is not the way this mess ended.

For the first time in nearly three decades, the House censured one of its members Thursday, voting 333 to 79 to formally punish Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) for reflecting poorly on the institution and bringing discredit to the House. Seventy-seven Democrats and two Republicans -- Reps. Peter King and Don Young -- voted against.

The House also voted earlier, 146 to 257, to reject a lesser punishment of reprimand for the congressman.

Congress has censured twenty-two members in the over 200 years it has existed. It is the second most severe punishment. Expulsion is the next punishment. He was punished for failing to report income eleven separate times. He was on various income tax committees but claimed he didn’t know the law. H & R Block could have told him the law. A computer program that costs $50.00 could have told him. I would think someone on his staff of ocer 10 would know the law, especially considering

The average citizen goes to jail for filing eleven false tax returns but not Congressman. Check put the quote below. How could you say this with a straight face? What the House did does diminish his life and service. Rangel still claims he did not enrich himself through his actions yet he was ordered by the House to repay back taxes to the U. S. Treasury. How did he not enrich himself when he unilaterally and illegally took an interest free loan from the U. S. Government?

"Nothing we say or do here today will in any way diminish his service to our country or our gratitude for his service within this House or as a hero of the Korean War," Lofgren said. "But that service does not excuse the fact that Rep. Rangel violated laws, he violated regulations, he violated the rules of this House and he violated our standards of conduct."

Life after Pelosi Galore

DECEMBER 2, 2010

The Islamic Terrorist organization el qaeda has started an English language version of their magazine. It is called Inspire. The magazine claims the money it spent on the bomb in toner cartridge scare from a few weeks ago was less than $5,000.00. It also claims the total amount of money it spent on pulling off the cowardly attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 was less than $400,000.00. A link to the English version of the magazine is below;

I do not promote you read the magazine with any regularity but the link is a secret and hard to fine. Use it as you see fit.

The South Korean government thinks North Korea will attack it again. They must have gone to obvious school in the U. S. The North Koreans are trying to make their soon-to-be new leader look good. The son of the current leader is a playboy who has apparently not learned to be as savage or as stupid as his father. The leadership in North Korea are trying to get into the best possible position before the old man dies. They are playing the son as much as they are playing the world. They are convinced the United States is ill-prepared for a third war overseas, especially with our weak federal government. The North will launch at least one more attack before we cave in and give them more “humanitarian” aid which is diplomatic code for “bribe to the leaders.”

The Ohio man charged with kidnapping his own children and suspected in their likely murder is fighting extradition from Ohio to Michigan. How would you like to be the Judge in the underlying divorce case. The mother was granted sole custody and last month the Judge granted the father visitation rights. A similar story occurred in Bloomington, IL (McLean County) a little over a year ago. The father killed his boys in that case. Being a Judge is not an easy job. Most decision involve money but many have life-alterating affects on the parties. As lawyers know, every decision a Judge renders makes one of the parties mad.

GOOD LUCK JUDGE TOM DOHERTY AS YOU EMBARK ON YOUR NEW JOURNEY THROUGH LIFE IN LESS THAN A WEEK. GODSPEED

Dennis Miller, the conservative comedian, has a radio program. I do not listen often but it can be entertaining. He is not a President Obama fan or a Nancy Pelosi fan. After making numerous jokes about her appearance, her job and her duties at the State of the Union Address, he was doing a bit on her life after Congress. A listener called in and told Miller Pelosi had just been cast in the remake of the movie, Goldfinger. She is going to play a Bond girl, Pelosi Galore.

Some news you cannot explain and don't want to read.

DECEMBER 1, 2010

Happy December everyone; I hope yours is peaceful, fulfilling, joyous and fun filled. Just 24 shopping days left before Christmas, unless you shop on the internet, then it is still only 24 days but it is 24/7.

I read where the Federal government has spent $1.17 for every $1.00 it has generated in revenue since the end of World War II. Since 2007 the Federal Government has hired 350,000 employees. This includes employees hired to replace retiring or dismissed employees. The average salary for civilian, nonmilitary Federal employees is $67,691.00 for jobs that exist in both the public and the private sectors in 2008. The average salary for employees in the same position working in the private sector earned $60,046.00 in 2008. This does not include benefits.

Since I wrote about the High School hostage situation in Wisconsin, new facts have come out. A gun was fired three times, by the hostage-taker. The 15 year old shot himself as police entered the classroom around 8:00 p.m. Monday. This troubled youth couldn’t even correctly commit suicide. He did not die for over twelve hours. I have compassion for his parents and family but not for the shooter. I wonder if a parent had to make the call to ‘pull the plug’?

Hold the presses. The Republican leadership and President Obama agreed to negotiate on the tax cuts set to expire Jan. 1, 2011. That is a code for, ‘they will not expire now, we will wait a while” for them to take effect. Like everything the Federal government does, they will worry about the cost and paying for it later. It is like the proposed freeze in Federal pay, except for the military and members of Congress. If the freeze does become law, what will happen when it expires in two years? The employees and Union leaders will argue they haven’t had a raise in two years so they are entitled to a bigger than normal raise. That will happen and in the end we have not saved any money just put off paying it for two years.

The news story in Ohio where a father tried to kill himself and has hidden his three children is not going to have a good ending. The woman the man said he left his children with does not exist, according to police. The police are searching wooded areas for the boys. Not a place you expect to find three boys, the oldest of which is 9, to be found alive. This is another sick story that is being repeated far too often.

The children were last seen Thanksgiving Day. The 39 year old father and the mother are going through a divorce. Child custody is a contentious issue being dealt with in the divorce proceeding.

McLean, Virginia police have accused a grandmother of throwing a 2 ½ year-old over a railing and to her death several stories below. Up to the moment the grandmother, 50 year-old Carmela Dela Rosa picked he child up and threw her over the railing, the family outing had gone without incident, which was normally the case when the grandmother was around. She often cared for her granddaughter in a babysitting capacity at her home where she lived with her husband and a son. Police have said the grandmother has offered no explanation for her actions other than to indicate it was not an accident.

Today is;

December 1 is … National Pie Day and Eat A Red Apple Day

A thought for the day; " Minds are like parachutes, they only work when open. "
